Some
practical advice from over 100 years of combined
experience installing Cellular Phones.
NO
HOLES PLEASE: We have yet to find someone
that was docked value or penalized by a dealer or
leasing company because they traded in or turned in
there vehicle with a Cellular Mount in it. We did an
informal study of lease companies and car dealers and
found that as long as the mount or holes from a mount
are not overly conspicuous there won't be any
problems. Now, if you used one of those vehicle
specific type mounts and the installer broke off some
of the little pegs that hold your dash together when
they installed your mount you may have to pay big
time. Our advice, leave the mount in the vehicle when
you get rid of it. Chances are it won't fit in your
next vehicle anyway.
CIGARETTE LIGHTER PLUG MOUNTS: Don't feel
bad if you bought one of those things and don't like
it, your in the same boat as a couple million other
people. Cigarette lighter holes are designed to be
plug-ins for a cigarette lighter or auxiliary 12volt
appliance, they are not mount receptacles. The
electronics on most of the "hands free" gizmos works
fine as long as you have the microphone and speaker
far enough apart. If you don't you will get feed back
between the two. Purchase a mount, we have adapters
available that should allow you to use our mounts with
your hands free kit.
DOUBLE STICK TAPE MOUNTS: We have tried
every brand and every type of double stick tape there
is and they all turn to goo in a hot car.
Some will discolor your dash
and that is worse than having a hole in it.
Enough said.
VEHICLE SPECIFIC TYPE MOUNTS: These mounts
work fine if who ever designed the mount you need took
into consideration that you don't want the cell phone
mount to obstruct your air vent or your ability to
easily get to the controls on your dash. They are not
very flexible so you will end up putting your phone
where ever they figured it should go. They are not
generally good for mounting GPS or PDAs. A lot of them
out there are poorly designed. We suggest you use a
body shop or qualified installation center to have
these mounts installed. In some cases it can be
extremely difficult getting your dash apart without
breaking the installation pegs off. That takes
practice. Also, these type mounts, although advertised
as "no hole needed" can mar your dash where they are
attached. This is worse than having a hole.
